NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — The Humane Society of Central Illinois has named its new executive director, Nicole Monson.
Monson has been working with the Humane Society of Central Illinois for about two years as the director of community engagement. She would work with people in the community to fundraise and organize events. She hopes she can continue doing that just in a different fashion.
“I think something I want to just keep growing is our community presence,” said Monson. “We are completely an independent nonprofit, completely funded by our community supporters. No national organization is funding us, so that is really important to me to keep that relationship going with the community and with us.”
Monson said that when the role opened up, it was a natural fit for her to take it. Even with her being in this position for a few weeks, she is already hitting the ground running, trying to make improvements around the shelter.
“Right now we have a renovation project that works on the very tip of, but we’re renovating our dog floor,” she said. “This is a big project that we’re currently working on. And so I’m hoping that, you know, that provides some more opportunities for safer spaces for our dogs. But looking around at the shelter, at some other little projects that we can help improve on.”
HSCI has an event coming up on Oct. 1, called Tail’s & Tini’s, which is one of their bigger fundraising events. Tickets are on sale now.
