PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A man accused in a hit-and-run that killed a 17-year-old last week was extradited back to Peoria.
Shamarr A. Greenlee, 36, was booked into the Peoria County Jail on Monday, July 27, according to jail records.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed a petition to detain Greenlee pending the outcome of the hearing, but it is not known when the hearing will take place, spokeswoman Anna Perales said.
A warrant for Greenlee’s arrest was issued on Friday, July 24, by the state’s attorney’s office, and a few hours later, he was arrested near St. Louis.
The two-car collision occurred at about 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of North Central and East McClure avenues, a few blocks from Glen Oak Park, said Semone Roth, a spokeswoman for the Peoria Police Department.
Officers with the Peoria Police Department tried to stop the car Greenlee was allegedly driving a few minutes before the crash. The vehicle initially pulled over, but then took off at a high rate of speed, Roth said.
A few minutes later, the collision happened, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Isis Horn. Roth said two other people were also injured.
Roth said Greenlee allegedly left the car and ran away from the scene after the crash.
