BLOOMINGTON – The Girl Scouts of Central Illinois are making a call for private donations after learning they won’t be receiving funding from the United Way this year.
CEO Pam Kovacevich said the cuts equate to about $75,000. She explained this has put funding for services to at-risk girls in Central Illinois in question.
“We have staff that will take the Girl Scout leadership experience to them,” said Kovacevich. “They’ll go to schools or agencies so that no girl is denied the opportunity to be a Girl Scout just based on a personal situation that we can help her overcome.”
Kovacevich said the service effects about 4,000 girls in the area.
“We have been meeting almost non-stop for the last several days trying to figure out how to fill the funding gap so that these girls do not have to be denied the Girl Scout experience,” she said.
