STANDFORD – Olympia School District teachers will soon no longer be paid based on a salary schedule.
The Olympia Board of Education and Olympia Education Association have approved a teacher’s contract which will base salary increases on various incentives. Superintendent Andrew Wise said those include outstanding performance, outstanding attendance, teachers who coach and teachers who take on duties such as mentoring.
“Our evaluation system is on a four point scale,” said Wise. “Teachers that receive a three or a four on the four point scale will receive an increase for that particular year.”
Wise added several districts have begun departing from the traditional method of compensation. However, Olympia’s new system will be unique.
“The system that we came up with, we came up with collaboratively and it does not match, to my knowledge, any other district’s compensation system,” Wise said.
The contract takes effect Aug. 1 and goes through July 31, 2019.
