BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — A Bloomington woman has been arrested after a voter fraud investigation.
On Monday, Sept. 29, Suniti Sud, 55, was arrested on three counts of voting fraud following a joint investigation, Bloomington police spokesman Bryce Janssen.
The investigation began in June after the Bloomington Election Commission reported a suspected case of fraud.
Jannsen said voting records showed that someone had voted twice in the November 2024 General Election. Sud is alleged to have voted once by mail-in ballot in Wisconsin and once in person in the city of Bloomington.
The Bloomington Police Department worked with authorities in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, during the investigation. A McLean County Grand Jury indicted Sud on Sept. 24.
The Bloomington Board of Election Commissioners released the following statement:
“With claims of unsecure elections and voter fraud during the 2024 Presidential Election, the Bloomington Election Commission was made aware of one voter who participated in voting both in the City of Bloomington, while also voting by mail in another state’s jurisdiction. Voter fraud is incredibly rare. During the November 2024 General Election, there was only this one instance of multi-state participation out of 37,786 ballots cast. As soon as this case was brought to our attention, the Bloomington Election Commission investigated this claim. After locating this voter’s check in information, the State’s Attorney’s Office was contacted by the Bloomington Election Commission. Further investigation was conducted with the Bloomington Police Department, along with the election authority of the other jurisdiction this voter cast a ballot in. Working together with true transparency, it shows that the safe-guards in place will find voters who cast ballots in multiple jurisdictions.”
