BLOOMINGTON – State Sen. Jason Barickman (R, Bloomington) is frustrated that politics apparently entered the Illinois Supreme Court decision to reject a citizen initiative to have legislative maps drawn independently.
Barickman said the high court decision was along party lines and clearly went against the public’s wishes.
“You would be hard pressed to find someone anywhere in the state who would say, ‘I like the way it is,’ or, ‘I don’t want maps drawn independently, I like the notion of the party that’s in power drawing the maps,’” Barickman told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin. “I mean, there’s no way.”
Barickman says cases like this add to the public’s already high frustration and the desire to completely overhaul government, as evidenced by the popularity of the campaign of Donald Trump.
