BLOOMINGTON – MetCom of McLean County answers many of the calls that come into 9-1-1, yet the state will stop passing that money on to centers like MetCom if they can’t decide on a budget before August.
Center director Tony Cannon says you are charged a monthly fee for 9-1-1 services on your phone bill. That money has been slow to come in over the past year and may stop completely after July. Cannon hopes no employees will have to be released.
“We don’t intend to, we hope that the town and the county would help us continue to move forward. It’s not outside the realm of possibility, obviously, but we would not want to do that,” said Cannon.
MetCom receives funding from the county and the Town of Normal. The City of Bloomington stopped using their services in 2006.
The County has already increased payments to cover for the state’s failure to pay in full.
