NORMAL – The Indy 500 is being held on May 29 starting at noon.
The race is expected to hold hundreds of racing enthusiasts, which means that injuries have the potential to occur off of the track.
Advocate BroMenn’s Vice President of Medical Management Dr. James Nevin served as a track physician between 1983 to 1995. During his time as a track physican he provided medical assistance to both racers and bystanders.
“We’d take care of 180 to 200 spectators with cuts, bruises, sometimes intoxication if you can imagine that. And then we’d take care of any drivers that came to the hospital,” Dr. Nevin recounts.
The race will be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and tickets are on sale now.
