BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington aldermen are considering approving a number of road projects Monday night.
The city is looking to split some of the cost of traffic light improvements at the intersection of Towanda and Vernon avenues with the Town of Normal. Bloomington Public Works Director Jim Karch explained the city also plans to add a right turn lane for drivers turning right onto Vernon.
“The overall traffic signals, it is shared and split,” said Karch. “But, whenever we have the right turn lane on the Bloomington leg of the intersection, that’s being paid for by the City of Bloomington.”
The total cost of the project should be about $750,000, according to Karch.
Also Monday, the council will vote on a recommendation to widen Linden Street from Locust to Empire. Karch said the city has been considering this project for a number of years.
The plan is for the city to widen the street from 26 feet to 30 feet. The street will then consist of two 10-foot driving lanes and one seven-foot parking lane, plus new curbs and gutters. Karch said the project should cost about $600,000.
