BLOOMINGTON – The McLean County Health Department on Thursday announced 15 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the county total to 598.

Of those cases, 99 are in home isolation and one person is currently hospitalized. There are 483 people that have been released from isolation and are considered recovered. There have been 15 COVID-related deaths in the county.

The county’s overall positivity rate is 2.1%, while the rolling seven-day positivity rate is 2.0%.

“The more people that someone interacts with, and the longer that interaction lasts, the higher the potential risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 and COVID-19 spreading,” said MCHD Administrator Jessica McKnight. “Large, in-person gatherings where it is difficult for individuals to maintain social distance pose the highest risk.  Travel also continues to be a high-risk activity for those in McLean County.”

Meanwhile, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 1,953 new confirmed cases of coronavirus and 21 additional deaths. The rolling seven-day statewide positivity rate went up slightly to 4.0%.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
