SPRINGFIELD – When thinking of getting shots this time of year attention turns to school age kids but that leaves out a big portion of the population that can benefit from immunizations.
August is National Immunization Awareness Month and the state’s Department of Public Health reminds everyone that shots aren’t just for kids. Assistant Director Don Kauerauf said adults are missing out on critical shots.
“For example, for the shingles vaccine that we know in 2014 only 28 percent of adults age 16 and older actually had that vaccine,” Kauerauf. “(What’s) more alarrning is for the Tetanus Diptheria Pertussis vaccine only 20 percent of adults have received that vaccine.
More and more drugstores and pharmacies are administering shots along with your county health department and your doctor.
