BLOOMINGTON – A campaign to build Strong Kids in Bloomington-Normal is being hailed a success.
The Bloomington-Normal YMCA raised nearly $179,000 in its Strong Kids fund drive which pays for programming and membership for low-income families. The goal was $175,000.
McLean County administrator Bill Wasson chaired the campaign.
“Those that make those contributions are people who recognize (the value) of this type of investment in the wellness of our youth,” Wasson said.
The campaign saw an 8 percent increase over last year.
Wasson said the campaign got off to a great start at its kickoff breakfast in April, when 48 donors gave $26,000 to help get the campaign off the ground.
“We did something a little different this year,” Wasson said. “We actually hosted it at the Y, in the gym and had tremendous response.”
