PEORIA, ILL. (WMBD) — Multiple rounds of severe weather are expected to impact Illinois between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. This includes the possibility of significant severe weather on Thursday afternoon and evening.
Wednesday, June 10th
Multiple rounds of storms are expected throughout the day and evening. Areas along and north of a Macomb to Pontiac line are within a Level 3 Risk for severe weather while areas south are in a Level 2.

The first round will come between 1 pm and 6 pm with damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, 1.0″ size hail, and heavy rain being the primary threats.
The second round will impact the area between 8 pm and midnight Wednesday night. Damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph are the primary concern though an isolated tornado is possible. These storms are generally expected to weaken as they move east so the greater severe weather risk should be west of the Illinois River. Flooding is also a concern with localized rain totals over 2 inches possible.
Thursday, June 11th
Significant severe weather is looking increasingly likely. All of central Illinois is within a Level 3 Risk for severe storms and a future upgrade can’t be ruled out.

Severe storms are most likely after 3 p.m. and before 11 p.m. The actual window for severe weather will likely be much smaller, but there’s still some uncertainty surrounding the timing of the front. All severe hazards are possible including wind gusts up to 80 mph, strong tornadoes, and large hail up to 1.5″ in diameter.
The tornado and hail threat will be highest with any discrete supercells that develop ahead of the main line. Whether or not these develop may depend on where any residual outflow boundaries from the night before are in the area. If discrete supercells don’t develop, destructive wind gusts will be the primary threat though embedded tornadoes will be possible.
Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warning information on Wednesday and Thursday and be sure to monitor the forecast over the next few days.
