NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — The Humane Society of Central Illinois has welcomed over a dozen Southern Illinois animals displaced by storms.
HSCI has provided refuge for animals in need, including eight dogs, four adult cats and three litters of kittens, said Nicole Monson, a spokesperson for the Humane Society.
By transferring these animals to Normal, Monson said HSCI is helping relieve overcrowded shelters in the hardest-hit areas.
She said this allows local organizations to focus on emergency response efforts and reunite pets with their families.
The additional animals come at a time when HSCI is already caring for hundreds of pets each month. Monson said community support is essential to making sure every animal receives food, medical care, enrichment and a safe place to stay.
