Unit 5 Superintendent Mark Daniel says the timeliness of the buses during the first week of school continues to improve.
Reports of overcrowded, late and misdirected buses have clouded the first three days of school. Daniel says some of the crowding issues have occurred because of low estimates of ridership based on surveys of district families on how they expected to use the buses. The superintendent tells WJBC’s Patti Penn that changed school start times appears to play a role.
“With the changing of the times, that has impacted the number of our secondary students riding,” Daniel said. “We’re fairly accurate on the elementary, but the secondary numbers are seeing an increase in ridership.”
Daniel says safety will continue to be the top priority and asks parents to continue to report problems so that he can bring them to the bus company, First Student.
