NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — A long-time bike shop known as Vitesse is under new ownership, with a new name.
After 50 years, Vitesse had served Normal and Bloomington as a bike shop, owned by Normal Mayor Chris Koos. Around March of 2026, Koos decided to give the store new ownership by stepping down. Vitesse is now another bike store called Trek Bicycle Normal.
“I had somebody who was interested in buying the business for over a year or maybe two years. And I just felt like it was time. After 50 years of running that business, I felt like it was time to step aside,” said Koos.
This handoff happened a few months after Often Running, the connected store, had closed its doors. The exchange happened quietly because, while there are new owners, the store will serve the exact same services and products that Vitesse did.
“It’s really more of a transfer of the business to a new entity and a younger person who owns four or five other tech stores in the Midwest. And it’s expanding. And I thought that was a good opportunity for him and a good opportunity for me,” Koos said.
Koos said as well that he is excited for the new owners, and that they are already doing great work in the storefront.
“There are bittersweet moments from it in the sense that, you know, I still get up in the morning, it’s like I got to check in and it’s like, No, you don’t. You don’t own that anymore. Things like that. But it makes me feel good that the right people have it and they’re doing great work over there,” he said.
Trek Bicycle Normal is open every day except Sunday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
