BLOOMINGTON – Housing sales in Bloomington-Normal remain consistent for 2016.
The local Association of Realtors reported overall sales were up 5 percent year-to-date at the end of August. President Karen Stailey-Lander said that’s right about where the numbers have been all year.
“I think that’s a very promising outlook,” said Stailey-Lander. “Especially considering all the economic things that are happening in our area, with Mitsubishi, and State Farm, and maybe even Clinton power station.”
Existing home sales are up 5.5 percent for the year. New construction homes are down 2.5 percent.
“I think unfortunately, with new construction, they have newer codes and things that are being required so that margin between an existing home and a new home is just a little bit wider than it has been in years past,” Stailey-Lander said.
Sales dropped across the board from July to August, which Stailey-Lander explained is typical for this time of year.
