(NEXSTAR) – Pam Bondi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, the former attorney general told CNN on Wednesday.
Bondi said she has been going through treatment, including surgery, and is “doing well, though.”
Bondi’s diagnosis reportedly came after she left the Justice Department. President Donald Trump fired Bondi from her post in April. She had been serving as his attorney general since the start of his second term.
However, Bondi’s work in the administration isn’t over just yet. A White House official confirmed to The Hill that Trump has appointed Bondi to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), joining tech executives like Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Oracle’s Larry Ellison. Axios was the first to report on the appointment.

The thyroid is a gland located at the front of the neck. As part of the body’s endocrine system, it releases hormones that control the body’s metabolism.
Thyroid cancer affects about 45,000 people per year in the U.S., according to the National Cancer Institute, making up 2% of all new cancer cases. It has a relatively high 5-year survival rate at 98.3%.
