KNOX COUNTY, Ill (WMBD) — A small private plane made an emergency landing in a Knox County corn field early Thursday evening.
Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 1400 block of North 1250 Avenue just after 4:30 p.m. on the report of a plane making an emergency landing.
The Cessna 172N had three people on board when it reportedly experienced engine failure mid-flight, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Lindsey May.
The pilot and the other two people who exited the plane were not injured, and no injuries were reported on the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating. Jet Air responded to assist with the recovery of the plane and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified, May said.
A post on the Knox County Facebook page says, “The Knox County Sheriff’s Office commends the pilot for safely landing the aircraft, resulting in a successful outcome with no injuries.”
It went on to offer a “sincere thank you” to all the first responders and agencies who provided a quick, professional response, working together to “ensure the safety of everyone involved.”
