NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — The Carle Bromenn Service Auxiliary is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a mural being painted by past and current board members and presidents.
The mural is the auxiliary’s gift to the hospital and the community to bring joy into the lives of the people who see it. It was designed and painted by Troy Freeman from FreeSky Studios.
The mural consists of four colorful butterflies, symbolizing the changes they undergo and how those changes can be symbolic for patients and community members.
“It’s a gift to the hospital, as our patients leave, they can get a picture with their entire family or patients of any type, not just the mother baby unit,” said Sue Seibring, manager of volunteer services for Carle Bromenn.
“All areas can come, and even the community can come and take a picture and enjoy the beauty of butterflies, transformation and rebirth.”
The auxiliary has spent the past 100 years making the hospital experience better for anyone who comes. They also raise funds for new equipment for many different departments.
“I would say hospital experience. We want everyone to have a wonderful patients, families, visitors, each other, a great experience. We also do a little bit of fundraising through some special events that we have. One of our main fundraisers is the Resale Boutique, which we’re very proud of,” said Seibring.
The mural can be seen at the main entrance of the Carle Bromenn Medical Center in Normal.
