BLOOMINGTON – Developer Jeff Giebelhausen is clarifying any misconceptions about the latest idea for a in hotel downtown Bloomington.
“We have no intention what-so-ever of putting in a fleabag, rent-by-the-hour type hotel,” said Giebelhausen. “Personally have zero interest in that. You, obviously, have zero interest in that. Let’s just be clear. Let’s just stop talking about that.”
Giebelhausen explained to the City Council on Monday what this would be is a hotel located at the Front ‘N’ Center building’s current location with between 68 and 100 rooms. The quality would ideally be in the upper half of hotels in the community.
“We’ve made no request to the city what-so-ever of what our new project might need from the city, if anything,” said Giebelhausen. “In fact, we’re 100 percent committed to moving forward without any type of financial participation on the part of the city.”
The city recently shut down a proposed $52 million hotel and conference center, something Giebelhausen was also driving. Giebelhausen said the new idea would not have a conference center or parking deck, but the building would have space for conference rooms.
