NORMAL – The Town of Normal is planning a complete reconstruction of Virginia Avenue from University Street to Franklin Avenue this summer.
The Town Council will vote Monday night on a $483,352 construction contract with Stark Excavating for the project. City Manager Mark Peterson explained the road will have to be closed once the work begins later this summer.
“Virginia is a busy street, carries a lot of traffic, so it is going to cause quite a bit of disruption over the summer,” said Peterson. “But it certainly needs to get done and it will be a nice improvement.”
Peterson added the town has been planning the project for a long time.
“It really ties into, really, the campus redevelopment of Advocate BroMenn, which a lot of that work is done,” he said.
Peterson expected the work to continue into early fall.
