NORMAL – The Unit 5 Board of Education approved the district’s amended 2015-2016 budget Wednesday night.
The budget shows a small surplus overall, but the transportation fund is still in the red $2.1 million. Finance Manager Marty Hickman said this is still an estimate.
“We won’t know, sometimes, until the last day,” said Hickman. “There’s still a scenario where we get a fifth payment – categorical payments.”
Hickman added that payment, which would come from the state, would help their fund balance, but the district will not be amending its budget again in this fiscal year.
“In the ed fund, the categorical payments that would come in are for special education to the tune of about $1.5 million, potentially,” said Hickman. “And then also in transportation, which would be near $1 million.”
If Unit 5 were to receive that payment from the state, it would be reflected in their annual audit.
