BLOOMINGTON – Home sales in Bloomington-Normal got off to a good start this year, according to new Association of Realtors President Karen Stailey-Lander.
Overall sales were up 29.9 percent in January compared to January 2015. Stailey-Lander added the number of pending sales are looking good as well.
“We have a total of 186 that are pending, so I just felt like that’s a really great start to our year,” she said.
New constrution sales were down about 57 percent after only 3 new homes were sold in January. However, Stailey-Lander said it’s not cause for alarm as there are a good number of new home sales pending.
“We have 13 new construction home sales pending right now, so I still think that shows a pretty strong start,” Stailey-Lander said.
Meanwhile, existing home sales saw a 36 percent boost.
Stailey-Lander explained this is a “great time” for anyone looking to buy a house because interest rates are so low.
