SPRINGFIELD – Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that can kill.
Illinois Emergency Management Agency Spokeswoman Patti Thompson said radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. She says now is the time to test your home for radon and take action.
“It’s one of the hazards that you can easily remove from your home,” said Thompson. “You can lower the levels if you have elevated levels. But, the most important point that we want people to know is that you will never know if you have high levels of radon in your home unless you test.”
High levels of Radon have been found in all of Illinois’ 102 counties.
Thompson says Radon testing kits are easy to find at hardware and department stores.
