LINCOLN – A mix of steady rain and freezing temperatures could make for an icy start to the final week of 2015.
The National Weather Service in Lincoln says there is a significant risk of ice accumulations across the northern third of Illinois, including McLean County on Monday.
A Freezing Rain Advistory is in effect until noon, while Woodford County and counties to the north and west are under a Winter Storm Warning until 3 p.m.
WMBD 31 meteorologist Lauren Rainson says McLean County could get up to one-fifth an inch of ice before temperatures rise above freezing on Monday.
The weather service says winds gusting to around 50 miles per hour on Monday would significantly increase the risk of damage to tree branches and power lines due to the weight of the ice.
Showers are expected to continue into the afternoon while temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 30s. There is a chance for a mix of rain and snow on Monday night.
