NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — A Bloomington man allegedly had more than five pounds of marijuana after he was caught fleeing from police.
Barry D. Guyton, 29, was booked into the McLean County Jail on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer as well as manufacture or delivery of between 2,000 and 5,000 grams of cannabis.
It was not immediately clear if he had been formally charged in McLean County Circuit Court.
Brad Park, a Normal police spokesman, said officers were running radar in the 700 block of East College Avenue when they saw a vehicle driving “at a speed significantly above the posted limit.”
An officer tried to stop the vehicle, but he drove away before striking a concrete barrier in the northbound lanes of Main Street. He then fled on foot, Park said.
He was found near the intersection of South University and Osage streets and arrested, Park said.
Inside the vehicle, officers allegedly found a bag with $30,000 in cash “bundled in a manner consistent with narcotics trafficking,” Park said. “Officers also discovered an unopened package that was consistent with narcotics packaging.”
A drug dog was brought in and alerted to the presence of drugs, according to Park. A search warrant was obtained, and inside the package, officers allegedly found just over five pounds of pot as well as another 40 grams of the drug found inside the vehicle, Park said.
