NORMAL – It’s not a full budget, but it’s progress. Illinois lawmakers passed a bill this week which unlocks various funds for local governments.
Included in that is funds for 911 call centers, such as MetCOM in Bloomington-Normal.
“They (MetCOM) were getting a little bit nervous because their reserves are slowing being depleted, because they’re having to dip into reserves, because they’re not getting those state transfer payments,” Normal City Manager Mark Peterson said.
Also released was motor fuel tax money.
“That is good for us and good for many local governments who are reliant on motor fuel tax funds to purchase salt and fund snow removal activities,” Peterson said.
Peterson added he’s pleased to see the bill passed.
