BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington’s Human Relations Commission is seeking nominations for its annual awards, to be presented at the Martin Luther King Luncheon on Jan. 16, 2016 at the Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Uptown Normal.
This year marks the 40th consecutive year for the MLK Luncheon. The event was started by Tim Walker, Bloomington’s Director of Community Relations at the time, and is the longest-running event of its kind in the nation.
Nominations are currently being accepted for the Human Relations Awards in both the adult and youth categories. To be eligible, nominees must be a resident of Bloomington for at least two years and the activity for which they are nominated must be not-for-profit and not a part of the nominees’ work duties. Winners are selected based on their demonstrated commitment to improving cooperation and fostering respect among people of different racial, ethnic, religious and other backgrounds, as well as their use of new and creative measures to fight discrimination, prejudice and the effects of past discrimination.
Nomination forms are available at www.cityblm.org and are due to the city on Friday.
