UPDATE (2:43 p.m.) — A 17-year-old girl is dead after an early morning crash Wednesday on Peoria’s East Bluff.
Isis Horn, who lived on North Central Avenue, was pronounced dead at the hospital just after 5 a.m., said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Semone Roth, a Peoria police spokeswoman, said two other people were injured. Their conditions were not immediately known.
The two-car collision occurred at about 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of North Central and East McClure avenues. That’s a few blocks from Glen Oak Park.
Officers with the Peoria Police Department tried to stop the car a few minutes before the crash near Jefferson Street and Abington Street, Roth said. The vehicle initially pulled over, but later fled at a high rate of speed.
A few minutes later, the collision happened.
An 18-year-old man was driving the car that was struck, which also contained Horn. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A third person, who was in the car that was fleeing police, was taken to the hospital as well with injuries that weren’t deemed life-threatening. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot. Police are still looking for the driver, she said.
This crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A person was taken to a local hospital in critical condition early Thursday morning after their vehicle was struck by another car.
The collision occurred at 1:22 a.m. near the intersection of North Central and East McClure Avenue on Peoria’s East Bluff, said Battalion Chief Rick Waldron.
When firefighters arrived, they found two mid-sized cars with major damage. A passenger in one of the cars had been removed by others before crews arrived. That person had no pulse. CPR was immediately started, and that person was rushed to a local trauma center, he said.
Two other people were also brought to the same hospital. They had non-life-threatening injuries, according to Waldron. No one had to be cut out of the vehicles.
One car, the battalion chief said, was driving at a high rate of speed on McClure and struck the other vehicle on the passenger side. The driver of the car on McClure fled the scene, Waldron said.
