SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WMBD) — The Illinois State Police have seen results from their efforts this year to help combat vehicle hijackings across the state.
From April to June, the state police recovered 342 stolen or hijacked vehicles and made 24 stolen vehicle arrests and four hijacked vehicle arrests, the agency said in a news release.
During this time period, deputies also managed to seize 10 guns while recovering the vehicles.
Grant funding for this enforcement comes from the state’s Vehicle Hijacking and Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention and Insurance Verification Council. The state police has received 11.3 million in grants from the council to combat vehicle thefts.
