NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — The Uptown Design Review Commission approved the designs for two new developments, Trail East and West.
These designs were reviewed once before at the June 26 meeting, but were tabled so the developers could make changes. These changes were made, and designs for both were approved.
“It’s two buildings, and they’re six stories each, and they’re both mixed-use developments,” said Tessa Ferraro, the town planner. “Commercial and restaurant on the ground floor, residential on the upper stories.”
The designs for both buildings were changed to include small details like exterior colors, window frames, and more. Both designs were approved tonight, but with some variances.
“They approved a few different variances for both buildings. So those variances do still need to be approved by the town council,” Ferraro said. “The next step for this would be for those variances to go to the town council, which will likely happen at their next meeting”
Variances are details within the design that do not follow the zoning code. They will need permission from the council to change the code to move forward with the designs.
The Town Council meets again on July 20. They are expected to vote on these variances at this meeting, but it could be pushed to their Aug. 3 meeting.
