SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WMBD) — With high temperatures and humidity, the Illinois Department of Transportation is warning the public to look out for pavement failures.
Pavement failures, buckling and blowouts happen with little warning during periods of prolonged heat and humidity, resulting in uneven driving surfaces, according to an IDOT release.
Maintenance personnel will be monitoring road conditions and will be ready to make repairs as quickly as possible when failures are seen and reported. They can be reported to IDOT by calling 800-452-4368 or 911.
The release said that when repairs are being made, drivers should expect slowed traffic and move over for workers and other emergency personnel.
IDOT also recommends packing extra water while traveling during extreme heat.
