BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — The extreme heat may have your air conditioning system begging for mercy, but Bratcher Heating and Air Conditioning has some tips to help your system out.
In order to keep your home cold and the AC working properly, it is key to shut all blinds to keep the sunlight from heating up the home.
“The window shades are very important in the heat of the peak of the day. Obviously, limiting traffic in and out of the house will help, especially late afternoon when the sun is full on our roofs. That’s when it has the hardest time keeping up,” said Brian Houchin, president of Bratcher Heating and Air Conditioning.
It is also important to keep your outdoor unit clear of any plants or bushes that could restrict airflow. Regularly changing your filter will also help out with the airflow.
“Make sure the landscape and bushes and so forth are not restricting the air around their air conditioner. Also keeping that coil clean, but also making sure it can breathe with the shrubbery and bushes outside is very, very important,” said Houchin.
If your AC unit decides to stop working mid-heat wave, the best thing for you to do is to shut it off and wait for help.
“Shutting the system off and waiting for us to arrive so we can take care of the system. But by turning the system off, it’ll let it either cool off if it’s overheated or let it start to melt so that we can properly test and diagnose the system,” he said.
If any questions or doubts come up about your system, you can reach out to Bratcher by phone.
