PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Part of McClugage Bridge will close on Wednesday as work continues on a rehabilitation project.
Starting on July 1, the westbound McClugage Bridge carrying U.S. 150 over the Illinois River in Peoria and East Peoria will close, according to a release from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Drivers using the bridge will notice a major change in traffic to accommodate work on the westbound side. Westbound traffic will use crossovers and shift onto the newer eastbound bridge, with two lanes dedicated for westbound and two lanes for eastbound traffic across the bridge.
As U.S. 150 and U.S. 24 traffic approaches the McClugage Bridge, they will be reduced to one lane to allow ramps to merge. Throughout the remainder of the construction zone, there will be two lanes of traffic across the bridge. All ramps will be accessible.
The release said this work is part of a multi-year rehabilitation project on the westbound McClugage Bridge and the bridge over Adams Street, which includes redecking, painting and miscellaneous repairs. The overall project is expected to be completed in late 2028.
Drivers can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when possible, consider using different routes.
