METAMORA, Ill. (WMBD) — Dozens were arrested, and hundreds of grams of drugs were seized over a five-day period in Central Illinois earlier this month, according to the Illinois State Police.
The state police said they conducted a multi-agency operation from June 15 to 20, focusing on Peoria, Tazewell and Warren counties.
The agency said police used aerial surveillance, intra-agency collaboration and technology to target known high-fatality crash areas, high crime areas, organized violent offenders and criminal groups using interstate systems.
According to the results, 41 suspects were arrested resulting in 56 criminal charges, including 25 felonies. Police recovered 247 grams of cannabis and 234.5 grams of controlled substances. 310 citations were issued and 509 warnings were issued, according to the state police.
Of the notable arrests during the detail, two people were arrested in Peoria within two days.
On June 17, troopers stopped a vehicle and recovered 200 grams of methamphetamine. The driver was arrested for meth possession, obstructing justice and multiple active arrest warrants.
The next day, troopers stopped another vehicle for a vehicle code violation. Officers recovered suspected crack cocaine and a gun from the vehicle. The driver was arrested for multiple charges including armed violence, possession of a defaced firearm and manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.
