BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Two men will find out Tuesday whether they will be held pending trial after being arrested early Sunday morning on weapons counts.
Byron Gardner Jr., 30, of Bloomington, and Jovon C. Sneed, 19, of Joilet, are both charged with unlawful use of weapons and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. Gardner is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The unlawful use of weapons charge alleged they possessed a weapon that could be fired in full automatic mode like a machine. That charge is the most serious and carries a possible 30-year prison term.
Both appeared in McLean County Circuit Court on Monday. Their detention hearing was continued until Tuesday, according to court records.
Bryce Janssen, a Bloomington police spokesman, said officers were called to a business in the 1500 block of South Main Street at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, on a report of a person with a handgun in their waistband.
Janssen would not identify the business, citing departmental policy, but the only business open at that hour is Cadillac Jack’s, a bar and grill.
Arriving officers approached Gardner, who then ran into the business. Officers followed, and he was quickly taken into custody. A loaded handgun with a “switch” was found on him, Janssen said.
Gardner’s car was allegedly in the parking lot, and officers allegedly saw a second gun inside. They got a search warrant for the vehicle and later found that the second weapon had been previously reported stolen, Janssen said.
Sneed was allegedly seen with one of the two guns earlier Saturday night. As such, he was also arrested, Janssen said.
