WASHINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Two men have been arrested in connection with the Heartland Bank and Trust robbery on June 4.
Willie B. Franklin, 50, was arrested in Fort Myers, Florida, and Marcellus D. Ward, 48, was arrested in Tazewell County. Both were arrested on Wednesday.
The Washington Police Department reports that a federal agent arrested Franklin in Florida, while Washington detectives worked with the FBI, Morton Police Department and the Illinois State Police to serve a search warrant in Peoria County, and the FBI arrested Ward locally.
Both men are charged with bank robbery with force, intimidation, or threat of violence, according to the violation listed in the news release. That notice also said those who are arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The investigation into the robbery continues, and Washington Police said they will not be releasing any further details to preserve the integrity of the process.
