BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — A 13-year-old Springfield boy has been identified as the victim of a deadly crash late Sunday night in rural McLean County.
McLean County Coroner Kathleen Yoder said Luke W. Peterson died as a result of multiple blunt injuries due to a SUV crash that occurred around midnight. The teen was a passenger in the SUV that left the roadway and crashed, the coroner said.
At 11:59 p.m. Sunday, troopers with the Illinois State Police were called to the wreck on U.S. Route 136 under the Interstate 55 overpass. That’s near McLean. When they arrived, troopers found one person dead and another injured. The second person was taken to an area hospital.
That person’s condition wasn’t immediately known.
Yoder said her office was called at about 1:30 a.m. Monday, notifying them of a death at Carle Bromenn Medical Center
This incident remains under investigation by the McLean County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
