NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — Rivian Automotives held an event to announce the official launch of their new electric vehicle, the R-2.
Many lawmakers, including both mayors of Bloomington and Normal, state Representative Sharon Chung, state Senator Dave Koehler and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
Rivian leadership shed light on the advancements they have made since being in Normal. They stated that they are leading the way in EV Technology.
The new R-2 is going to be more affordable for the average family, according to Rivian’s CEO RJ Scaringe.
“It allows us to bring the Rivian brand into a price point that’s far more accessible to a lot more people. The starting price is going to be from $45,000 and up. It’s really a mass market product for us,” said Scaringe.
Scaringe also said that they could not have done this without the village behind him.
“When we see the vehicle that looks like the completed product, but what we really want to see is the thousands and thousands of people behind that that help put this together, from our engineering teams to our software development teams to, of course, the manufacturing manufacturer, engineering teams, to teams that built this globally,” Scaringe said.
The launch of R-2 is going to bring more jobs to the people of the Twin Cities, boosting the local economy.
