COOKSVILLE, Ill. (WMBD) — Two women are dead after a two-vehicle collision in rural McLean County, the coroner said late Sunday night.
According to Coroner Kathleen Yoder and the Illinois State Police, the incident happened at about 3 p.m. at the intersection of Illinois Route 9 and 2600 East Road.
A preliminary investigation indicated the crash involved an SUV and a passenger van. One person, a 58-year-old Ellsworth woman who was the only person in the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene. Several occupants were transported to area hospitals with injuries.
Also dead at the scene was a 82-year-old woman from Millbrae, Calif. which is a city of 23,000 just outside of San Francisco. She was a rear passenger in the van. Others from the van were taken by ambulance to area hospitals.
Their conditions were not immediately known.
This incident and cause of the collision remain under investigation by the McLean County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
