PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A gun was found in a student’s locker at Tremont Middle School on Monday morning.
Officers with the Tremont Police Department were called by school administrators to a report that a student had an unloaded gun in a locker, a post on the department’s Facebook page said.
“The student had already been isolated from the general student population prior to the discovery,” the post said. “School administrators immediately secured the firearm and turned it over to the School Resource Officer.”
The incident is still under investigation, and all students and staff are safe, as the post says there was no indication that there were any threats to any student or the school.
“Bringing weapons onto school grounds is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Tremont School staff and Tremont Police will continue working diligently to maintain the highest level of safety across all three schools,” the post said.
