NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — A man was arrested in Normal for alleged child sex crimes on Wednesday, police say.
Nathaniel L. Stokes, 35, of Champaign, faces charges of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He appeared in McLean County Circuit Court on Wednesday. A future court date has not yet been set.
In July, an investigation was started by the Normal police after allegations began that Stokes had inappropriate contact with a girl while he was living in Normal. This led to his arrest on Wednesday, according to a release by Normal Police Chief Steve Petrilli.
“Based on the findings and a thorough case review, a McLean County arrest warrant was issued for Stokes, who has now been taken into custody,” the chief said.
According to online court records, he was ordered held in custody pending the outcome of his case.
If convicted of all charges, he faces up to 60 years in prison.
