NORMAL – Normal Police announced five different firearm arrests since November via a news release late last week.
The arrests were part of the department’s effort to get illegal guns off the streets, according to NPD.
Those arrested include:
- Jordan Darm, Age 19, Bloomington IL
- Roderick Simmons, Age 36, Bloomington IL
- Jeremaiah McCottrell, Age 22, Normal IL
- Monae Lewis, Age 33, Normal IL
- Shawndell Wright, Age 29, Normal IL
Normal Police Chief Steve Petrilli told WMBD that the arrests don’t come as part of a larger initiative at the department, it’s a way to highlight the work that officers are doing.
Petrilli said the department prescribes to an intel-based policing model and that it advocates officers being proactive in drug trafficking and illegal firearms. He said the “best time” is often during traffic stops.
All of them were charged with various firearm-related charges including aggravated unlawful use of a loaded weapon, no FOID, and resisting police.
