BLOOMINGTON – A convicted killer from Bloomington was sentenced Friday to 50 years in prison for a fatal shooting last year on the city’s east side.
Scotty Allen, 20, was one of three men charged with the shooting death in April 2019 of Juan Nash, 25, in the 1200 block of Orchard Road.
A jury found Allen guilty in June of charges including first-degree murder. Testimony presented at trial indicated Allen himself was shot during the gun battle.
McLean County Assistant State’s Attorney Brad Rigdon recommended Judge Casey Costigan sentence Allen to a total of 80-years behind bars.
Under the truth-in-sentencing law, Allen must serve the entire 45-year term imposed for the murder conviction, and 85% of the sentences handed down for aggravated discharge of a firearm and mob action.
Trials for co-defendants Amari McNabb, 21, and Exodus Hebert, 19, are scheduled to start September 21.
