NORMAL – Fans in attendance for Monday afternoon’s Normal CornBelters exhibition game had a chance to sample some of the venues new concession items.
Concessions Manager Rick Greene says new items include a hotdog wrapped in bacon called the Pig Whistler.
“We’re taking an Eisenberg hotdog, we’re wrapping that in bacon, because what could go wrong when you wrap it in bacon right? We’re deep frying that and then that’s going onto a bun with a coleslaw that has an apple coleslaw on top of that,” said Greene. “It should be really fun.”
There’s also big-time burger called the Belter Burger and the Crib Stick, which Greene described.
“Basically, it’s a corn grit with a spicy cheddar cheese. It’s been just flying off here today, it’s probably the biggest favorite,” he said.
General Manager Steve Malliet said they want to create a unique atmosphere for fans.
“Minor league baseball is all about unique and creating that atmosphere is one of the things that we really focused on here with the food. It can’t be just your average, everyday food it’s got to have a unique twist to it. So that’s what we tried to do,” said Malliet. “And then on top of that, make people more comfortable out here at the same time.”
The CornBelters first home game is May 19.
