BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington organization has taken over radon testing in McLean County.
Mid Central Community Action is administering a new radon awareness program that focuses on educating, encouraging testing, and supporting mitigation of Radon in homes throughout the community.
Ecology Action Center in Normal had administered the program in recent years.
Radon is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas. Its potentially fatal as it causes pneumonia, bronchitis, and is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.
Director of Resource Development and Community Engagement Matthew Drat said it’s important to make sure your home is not being affected by this gas.
“Every home in McLean County, if they have not been tested, they need to be tested and then re-tested on a regular basis because things change within the environment,” Drat explained.
If radon is detected it can be mitigated. Radon test kits are available at radonmclean.org.
