BLOOMINGTON – U.S. Cellular Coliseum is rolling out new security measures this weekend.
The Coliseum has new metal detectors at all the entrance doors where patrons will be screened.
“It’s very much becoming the industry standard,” Group Sales and Marketing Manager Nikki Dalbey said. “There are several large promoters who are now requiring all buildings that are hosting shows of theirs to have metal detectors in place.”
Dalbey said patrons are asked to place large belt buckles, eyeglass cases, cameras and cellphones into a try before going through the metal detector.
“Hopefully that will keep things going pretty speedily,” Dalbey said.
The new measures were put in place ahead of Saturday’s Keith Urban concert, which is sold out.
Dalbey added the Coliseum will aim to open 90 minutes ahead of time, but that’s provided the tour managers are ready. All bags brought in must be soft-sided and smaller than 13 inches wide, long or tall. Backpacks are not allowed.
