BLOOMINGTON – The YWCA of McLean County took part in an annual celebration of afterschool programs Thursday by hosting Lights on Afterschool.
YWCA Marketing and Public Relations Director Christy Germanis explained they’re one of many organizations throughout the nation which recognize the occasion.
“There are millions of children every year that are left home alone before or after school without supervision,” said Germanis. “It is important not only for the kids to have supervision, but it’s also important for them to be able to maintain their learning in an after school environment.”
Germanis said interacting with other children is important as well.
Many local afterschool programs, and services like Normal Public Library and Upper Limits, attended and displayed information. Germanis added many children who took part in the event are actually already involved in after school programs.
