NORMAL – After years of waiting, a development is finally being placed in the empty lot near Uptown Circle.
Construction on the multi-use building is underway and should take 12 to 13 months. The building, which is going in behind the Hyatt Hotel, will house a restaurant on the first floor, town offices on the second and luxury apartments on the third through fifth floors.
Deputy City Manager Pamela Reece explained this is the second phase of the One Uptown Circle project – phase one was the Hyatt.
“That space has been vacant for a long time. People often times refer to it just as the Uptown natural area there,” said Reece. “But, (since) the Hyatt Place has been developed it has brought a lot of energy.”
The town Council will vote Monday night on allowing CORE Construction, the general contractor for the project, to use some space for equipment in Uptown during construction.
